19 MIC-102:  Smart Sensors and Sensor Networking 4-0-0 The main objective of teaching this course is to make student aware about “Smart Sensors” and Sensor Networking fields which are growing very fast nowadays.
Smart Sensor  is a micro-sensor suitably integrated with appropriate electronics, such that the output is fully or easily compatible with the user’s end device”. Smart sensors are replacing the conventional ones for measurement of most of physical quantities, thanks to their distinctly better performance, convenience of use and substantially lower prices. The pace of replacement  is not as fast as it should have been, due largely to lack of awareness. “Sensor Network is a group of sensors inter-connected through a data network for the purpose of distributed measurement or sensing”. Applications of sensor networks range from
environment monitoring to precision agriculture, from intelligent cars to intelligent buildings, from health-care to disaster-mitigation and from industrial measurements to spying in the war-field.
